i hate buffalo. & i’m not joking, nor do i require $10 to vent it. i’m a student, & since i’m not a well-off student, i’m here for my undergrad. why do i hate buffalo? 1) UB breeds mediocrity; 2) tyranny of a small town, i.e. if one doesn’t adopt the habitual small town congeniality when seeing an acquaintance every time one walks down the street, then one is deemed as an “snob, elitist, b***h…”; 3) god forbid if one happens to be an introvert, or solitary, or private, or withdrawn, or even depressed… the natives get restless & mutter amongst themselves “who does she think she is anyways?!”; 4) there’s an endless supply of creepy old men that prey on young women in allentown; 5) buffalonians seem to prefer the homogenization of individuals so that that everyone is “equal”; 6) the cops are corrupt; 7) per capita, the crime in increasing;
not even vincent gallo likes buffalo, & he’s a native; 9) there lacks any decent pizza, clothing boutiques, mexican restaurant, intelligent nightlife, diverse culture…; & 10) the natives all seem to have a tinge of bitterness, foulness, & hopelessness.

haha very funny sue i agree with you on that…..i am a student at ub and i do agree buffalo sucks in general..absolutely nothing to do and the crime rate against student are staggering. buffalonian are so retarded that they would want to target students rather than a non student with a profession and for some reason the 50+ men always try to hit on the wayyyyy younger girls…jobs have horrible pay, their pizza definitely is tasteless and extra greasy, groceries are ridiculously expensive and everyone just isn’t pleasant in anyway

ive been stuck here for two years (military). this place is a piece of shit. about 1/10th of the people ive met are decent the rest are cocky b*tches and f*cking a*sholes. the only thing ive enjoyed are the bars on chippiwa or however the f*ck you spell it. EVEN those bars are a piece of shit. Seriously if your not single and you are going to a bar to dance drink and have fun dont bring your f*cking boyfriends? OTHER THEN THAT. what the hell is there to do? go to canada and spend a shit load on money on strip clubs expensive alcohol and wendys that charges up the a*s? this place is boring, most of the people are shit, half the cops are hiding and asleep and when they do come out they like to f*ck people over with tickets rather then looking out and lowering the crime rate in areas that need it. look at that sh*t. its just a long run on sentence. this place is awful and the people make it worse.

I love how everybody on the tubes loves to bash Buffalo but nobody ever actually gives the real reason why Buffalo sucks so bad.
So I will:
NYC and Albany. They’re bleeding this place dry, why the hell do you think the tax rates are so high? Because Buffalo spends so much money? There is no end to their stupidity and greed and I wish we could just secede from their bullshit circle jerk already.
Buffalo does suck for young people looking for hype scene bullshit, of course. If all you want to do is go out to bars and pretend you’re a superstar then surely it isn’t worth your precious time. But if you have a family and you want them to actually be able to go to a decent school that isn’t loaded with bums, crackheads and pill popping scumbags then this place has its advantages.
But like I said, if you wanna be a wannabe then its not for you, and you should, by all means, head to some overpriced hype scene shithole so you can get mugged outside you $1500.00 a month hostel looking studio apartment. If you want a decent public or private education, if you want a stable real estate market or if you want a reasonable cost of living and an old school home town environment then this place is for you.
If you want to be a fresh superstar and screw somebody different every night then stay away from here. To be honest, I wish all the orange skinned oompa-loompa looking morons from Long island would stay the hell away from here, along with all the asshole douchebags from NYC that are all attitude and no personality. I know you think you’re the freshest of the fresh because you come from the greatest city on earth and have decided to grace us with you magical presence but you know what? YOU AIN’T SHIT, otherwise you wouldn’t be here. I also wish all the Midwestern cornballs with no personality would stay the hell out too, go back to your mega-malls okay?
Buffalo has been screwed over 3 ways from Sunday by loser politicians for decades, but there are things here that can’t be found elsewhere. And given that the US economy is in free-fall and all these formerly marvelous places to live with their 1 million dolla McManisions are now laid to waste because people actually got wise to how much of a scam it all was what do you think is going to happen here? People are going to start to come here because they can’t afford their ARM mortgages and their Lexus SUVs anymore.
Jobs are scarce here, that’s a fact, but the reasons for it do not lie with the bunch of dumb Pollocks that run City Hall. They’re bad, but they’re not as bad as the human scum from Albany that keeps this place in hock. Don’t believe me? Then do some research. Its going to take a seismic shift to get this place competitive again, but that may have just happened this year. It was called the housing bust.

I agree. Buffalo DOES in fact suck, and its shitty suburbs are no better. I live in the Oklahoma City area now and I have to say, there are TONS of jobs here, and I love having 85 degree days in the middle of Winter. Y’all can hold off on the tornado jokes cuz most people that live here have never even seen one, we just hear about it on the news.
I will never move back to Buffalo, main reasons are: shitty weather for 7 months out of the year, HIGH TAXES (thanks to new york state), and lack of jobs.
BTW, the area im in now is #6 in the nation as fars as growth is concerned and theyre constantly putting up new buildings and growing at an amazing pace, its as if i’m Witnessing the birth of a future Metropolis.

A “Buffalo Sucks” forum! What a novel idea!
I’m a transplant from Buffalo living now in the sunny Bay Area of California, a vastly superior area brimming with social and economic opportunities and countless outdoor activities year-round. Beyond the lousy weather that the city has long become notorious for, the perpetually depressed economy, the glaring lack of exciting activity prospects, and the laughably bad professional sports franchises the locals care far too much about, I feel Buffalo “sucks” basically because a substantial portion of the city’s residents “suck”: many are antisocial, nasty, and all-in-all contemptible. Is it any wonder then, that during my childhood, many of my peers were punks, goons, and in general antagonistic problem children, even supposedly in a “good” suburban school district?
All in all, the city itself has very few redeeming qualities, and its proximity to Canada and high-calorie gastronomic fare are nothing to write home about. Definitely not home in Buffalo, anyway. I haven’t been back to visit in nearly a decade and a half and intend to keep things that way.

The physical area of Buffalo is great. The nature, and the architecture, and the natural wonders. But the city is dead. All the normal people have left. I my self am leaving. F NYC, and F NYS. They are the reason why this place blows. I wish we could be our own state, and then I would move back, till then F Buffalo, or as it should be known the Shity of Buffalo.
Can you believe that in the 1940′s people actually wanted to move here, it was a getaway for the rich folk (hence the mansions on delaware). Now its a toilet for crooked politicians, toxic waste, and crackheads.

Buffalo sucks. Everyone here is completely artificial and fake. The parents raise their kids to be ignorant trolls. Most people here are indeed “unpleasant” to say the very least. The Cops are not only corrupt but generally assholes with too much time on their hands. They aren’t even trying to fix the problems anymore so they’re going to expand the medical industry, as if they even need it.
Just being born here was a mistake. Living here puts you at such a disadvantage. I’m 25 and I’m telling you it’s freaking difficult if you strive against conformity at all. You just stay in your group and that’s it, you don’t converse at all with anyone.
The worst part is all these people defending buffalo like it’s some great place to live. They make up all these lies because they don’t want to accept the consequences of somebody else’s failure. It’s not their fault but they just don’t know what to do about it so they look away. There are some wealthy people here and watching them live their perfect lives will sincerely make you feel like shit.
There are a lot of crackheads everywhere here too, both city and suburb. The whole place is 1 big pile of phlegm except for the gated communities and wealthy neighborhoods.
This place will seriously make you want to off yourself if you stay here long enough. The people here are HORRIBLE!!! And I say that as a Native, I grew up here, the people I grew up with were terrible people.
Everything about this place is a horror story.
Stay OUT of Buffalo!

Yes indeed, Buffalo sucks. Why? Because the people who live there are so defensive about it that it makes them sound ignorant. How about this reasonable answer? Yes, Buffalo, like any smaller city in the US has it’s limitations but it suits those with a desire for a lifestyle with a more small town atmosphere. That sounds reasonable. I grew up in Buffalo and because I cared for neither hockey or football, I plotted my escape from about age 10 on. Honestly, friends of mine who still live in Buffalo were never particularly adventurous folk interested in another lifestyle to begin with. They tend to be afraid of other ways of life and seek he familiar. Most people I know who have moved back have done so because they have not been successful in larger city markets. It’s also very conformist town. Their defensiveness is part of a “love of or leave us” school of thinking. If you l;ive in Buffalo you better damn love it or they will eat you alive! To live in Buffalo you have to love it for friends, family and “same old, same old” because it’s mind numbingly boring otherwise. And I would never raise my children in a community that basically thrives on the idea that education and experience are not nearly as important as the ignorant attitude “Buffalo is the Best.” Very Sarah Palin-esque.

I can’t stand Buffalo. I’ve worked in the Buffalo area for 15 years. I have a bachelor’s degree and I never got anywhere until I was 36 years old. It just sucks rotten eggs. I take the bus and I can’t even find a place to go to the bathroom. Everthing shuts down at 5:30 pm. PATHETIC.

Buffalo sucks!! How does it suck? Well, the weather sucks. The sun does not exist for 10 months of the year. The Great Lakes are nothing compared to the oceans. The food sucks. Everything is old and run-down. Of course, people say it’s “historic”. Philadelphia is historic. Buffalo just has old crap that they can’t afford to renovate. The women are ugly because all of the good ones went to better cities. Buffalo is in a constant state of poverty.
But the absolute worst part of it all, is that residents here actually defend Buffalo! I mean, they actually like living here. They are so friggin stupid that they actually delude themselves into liking it here. That is just pathetic. I leave in 8 months. And I will never come back to this sh*thole.

Thank you everyone for the honest posts. I completely agree with the points being made. For some reason I was thinking about my experiences in Buffalo and wanted to find a website with people that shared my experience.
It was my experience that most people in Buffalo are alcoholics, racists, and perpetually whine about everything. Larger social structures sometimes have very subtle, undetected effects. When you are surrounded by a mentality it is often difficult to imagine a mentality outside of it. Thus the flocks of depressed alcoholics, racist frat guys, and those assholes on the police force (its true) that inhabit the city. I was very depressed in this city. When I graduated from UB and started grad school at Cornell, my entire life changed. If anyone is feeling my frustration, don’t feel bad about yourself, this is a natural process that many people experience in Buffalo. You’re not alone. If you want to stay in the city, I’d recommend searching very hard for a group of people that you feel comfortable with and don’t let the perpetual negativity that you experience weigh you down. I am personally very devoted to meditation, it helps to remove negative, destructive thoughts. Most importantly, look for people that you can share yourself with.
If there’s one thing I could say to myself from back then. It is that you are not alone. You’re not the only person who is longing for meaningful activities, people excited and passionate about their studies, who is offended by the constant racists jokes, who is tired of spending all their free time getting drunk, who is bothered by the poverty and people’s indifference and even hatred of it, and who feels completely out of place, who feels not only depressed but completely and totally insane.

Buffalo does suck… and I am surprised to see so many natives agree! I am not from here and I guess those natives desireed or seen a vision to accomplish so much more then what Stiff-alo offers!
If you are not from here and you not here because of the housing affordability then you will never want to live here or stay here. The only reason I purchased a home here is so I could stop paying someone else’s mortgage.

And dont get me started on the judicial aspect of this sorry a*s town. All they do is steal babies from parent for the stupidest things. But if you a crack head or heroin addict they give you chances to get them back, but if the biological fathers come into the picture after not being involved for 2 -4 years they glorify them and transfer custody under the quise of “custodial interference” or “parental interference” This city sux ! I have worked in the county… so seen it from all aspects the racism, bigotry, intolerance to differences, etc. I have fell victim to all this….

Lived in Buffalo for 17 years, then moved to Northfield, MN to attend St. Olaf College. Minnesota’s -10 degree days make Buffalo’s weather seem mild. Then I came back to Buffalo and attended Buffalo State for a year. While I was there, I was contemplating suicide. But, now I go to Portland State, and gosh I love the people out here in Oregon. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Oregonians.
And the liberals in Oregon actually care about reform: we have bike lanes everywhere-which is awesome! I have biked 1800 miles between September and the end of January.
Also, Portland has awesome mass transit. Lastly, the girls are very attractive and dress in beautiful jeans and leather boots.
I love Portland!

I have to agree that Buffalo sucks!!!!. After college in Tampa, FL I returned to this miserable state (and city). The weather sucks, (8months of winter), the politicians are corrupt and the people are generally overweight and ugly. The last straw…. I just returned from a western carribean cruise to the lovely mid 20 degree crap and opened my mail box and guess what… the town/county just raised my property taxes again….third year in a row. Why do we pay so much to live in this depressing crap hole???

Let me say this, I first moved to Buffalo, from NYC, when I was 10 and it was miserable for me. The other children and teens here are so nasty and stuck up its ridiculous. When i finally mad friend, by 13, a year later I moved. I went to GA, which as i look back was great, and Delaware, another Buffalo. I wanted to come back because of friend. My mom moved back here to buffalo and now i wanna just leave. My friend turned out to be the fakest motherfuckers ever, teens here only care about who they fucking next, the people here are dumb, and the colleges suck!!
I am so happy June is close and i get to graduate because i cant be here no more, i am slowly losing myself!!!!!!!!

I was convinced to move here by a friend and have really really regretted it. I got laid off and my apt was sold in Brooklyn all in the same month. So after a year long stay where I grew up around Philadelphia I moved here with one of my coworkers from NYC who was originally from here. At first I was like cool new place and after having a year of nothing to do living with my family I was glad to be back in the party scene. Then reality hit.
There are no jobs, the weather sucks (I don’t care what anyone tells you about summers here), it never gets warm till June, it’s always WINDY, people are fucking scumbags here, the entire downtown consists of closed up storefronts and empty buildings. The politics here suck and I’m convinced are run by the mob. The Buffalo idea of improvement is building a Basspro shop?!! Who cares? How about stores like H&M, Trader Joes,Whole Foods, IKEA, something classy. This place has 0 class. Crooked rich people, ghetto scumbags, racists, and people who cannot think outside their own small little world are all that exist. In fact the little towns outside Buffalo seem to run Buffalo.
Nightlife consists of dumb college kids throwing up on themselves or meatheads who want to fight. Everyone is drunk 24-7 because there is absolutely nothing to do. No good bands ever come here. Someone mentioned people cheating on each other left and right. Yeah it’s totally true. One of the first things I was told when I moved here is everyone dates each other in friend groups you just have to wait your turn. Elmwood is a big joke. Crappy little trinket shops selling hippie crafts. In fact any art festival here is a bunch of amatuers hawking crappy arts and crafts.Oh and the sports teams fail just like the city. Bumblin Bills and Stumblin Sabres I’ve named them.
Jobs forget about having one here. I work for the newspaper and that’s slowly dying. Only reason I’m still there is it pays well, I’m in a union, and the part time schedule will allow me to go to school. Which as soon as I’m done I’m getting the hell out of here.
So let’s review:
Cold and depressing from November till middle of May.

Buffalo is a joke. Crime is through the roof and cops don’t care at all. Most cops are corrupt addicts with a big mouth. Taxes are always getting higher. Jobs don’t exist. Everyone is an asshole. Gangs are everywhere and they aren’t even big ones, just a bunch of posers which are worse because they have even less morals and codes than big city gangs do, which says a lot. As soon as you think it couldn’t possibly get worse, it does. Everyone is an alcoholic or an addict. Schools are a joke. Everything about buffalo sucks. Keep your money, this rant is free. I’m going to have to agree with the vast majority of you and say that Buffalo, NY sucks. I’m from Flint, MI and I long for it. I will get the fuck out as soon as I can. If you have no family ties or history in Buffalo then there is no reason to come here, ever. I moved here because of work and the prospect of getting stuck here scares me enough to pick up and leave with nothing. Anything would be better, the people and things to do here make Detroit look like friggin paradise. Seriously Buffalo!! I came here with an open mind and I still believe there are some worthwhile things here and while I don’t know much about local politics I definitly see some room for improvement. All I have to say is that everyone who says Buffalo sucks is 100% correct. I have lived here for my whole life. I’m moving to Texas this spring and I cannot wait.
Where should I start……Everytime you go downtown all you see is poverty. Crack heads on almost every street. I have almost been robbed about 5 times in this pit.
Houses are old and run down. The worst part is that they want a crap load of money for those dumps. Even to rent is a joke.
People have no sense of style or common sense. All anyone cares about is fighting each other. You can get in an accident in the middle of an intersection and no one would care or stop to see if your ok. Women dress like it’s the 80′s and walk around with blue cheese from their chicken wings on their a$$. Guys either dress like ghetto scum or like stuck up f@gs.
Sports-HA HA these teams are a joke. Why in the world would you still want to cheer for a team that sucks every season? What makes people think they will all of a sudden be great? I could never understand that about these people.
Weather-Snow. What else can I say about that?
Politics-Are just a laughing matter.
Nothing to do-No good stores and if your not a drinker then your pretty much screwed.
Oh, and about bass pro- they even turned Buffalo down.
I’m leaving and never coming back. Nothing will save this place.

Oh, I just had a field day with this page!
I moved here to Buffalo 6 years ago from the mid-west and I can’t wait to go to get out of here! I’ve never seen more narrow minded people than in Buffalo. The people that I’ve met here and liked have all come from out of state! Ironic?
There are no jobs, as everyone knows. The city is bankrupt and dirty. Chicken wings are considered an appetizer, breakfast food, lunch, dinner, and a snack. If food isn’t deep fried it’s considered a vegetable, even if it’s meat.
The real mistake by the lake isn’t Cleveland. People actually want to GO THERE. Take a drive on our beautiful Skyway Bridge and you only have a nice view of nature if the sun is shining on Lake Erie. Going towards Hamburg you will have a beautiful view of….drum roll please…… dilapidated buildings from companies that died decades ago! If you get lost in the city of Buffalo make sure your doors are locked and DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT.
Ride the trolley in the city, too. You will be right up in the grill of poverty. You can win the lottery and still feel dirty walking downtown. Walk past the welfare office and see a line of people that snakes around the corner. You’re going to see a lot of bling and Louis Vuitton purses that hold all the information the welfare office needs to get them a food stamp card.
As for schools- I attended a private college and I was in for a shock at the immaturity and basic lack of intelligence at the students. I was talking to a teacher of mine, a doctor, and I expressed dismay at having missed a quiz. I was told I could not make it up. A woman butted in and told me that I shouldn’t miss class and it was my fault. Hello? I didn’t ask that heffer to join in my conversation! Buffalonians CANNOT mind their own business! This pork loin in a sweat suit didn’t stop running her mouth and I got pissed. I asked her what her name was and she clammed up. I waited a few minutes, walked over to her table, bent down, looked her in the face and again asked her what her name was. No reply. Then I said to her “Oh, look who isn’t talking now. Amazing”. I went to the dean and logged a complaint and nothing was done.
Get this- my husband was fired from a job because his boss wanted him to run illegal software that belonged to another company. If my husband would have used illegal key codes he would have been held accountable for breaking the law. My hubby protested and he got the boot. My son was shoved in the shoulder by his boss while working at Tim Hortons- because he was “too slow” in making coffee.
My closest friend here wears a Buffalo Bills jacket and that’s her prerogative. However, her husband said I should support the Bills since I am a Buffalonian. I would rather be called a skanky whore than a Buffalonian Bills fan and I let him know that I root for the Patriots!
I could keep going on but the list is long and my time is short. Bvllets- you are our hero! We finally feel vindicated for our feelings about Buffalo. My dad was born and raised here and moved out in the 50′s long before I was born. He always said there was nothing here. Dad was right.

I left Buffalo in the mid 70′s and hoped I would never see this god forsaken hell hole again. Been back 7 yrs. and I tried …I really tried to give it a chance. It is now March and still fu..ckin snowing, can’t find a decent paying job to save my life and I worked most of my life in Vegas so have tons of experience. And the number one reason I really hate Buffalo are the people. Is everyone in this town on food stamps or am I the only one at the market without a debit card. And what is up with everyone wanting to know all my personal life….and I’m talking complete strangers. Found the people here to be ignorant, judgemental, alcoholic, gossipy, nosey, backstabbing , hopeless, simpleminded know it alls. Oh…and all the radio stations are still into classic rock..can we say time warp. Yeah…worse radio stations on the planet no jazz or hip music at all ..thank God I have satellite. Anywho..I have decided this is the last year this creepy state gets anymore of my hard earned tax dollars to feed the lazy hustlers of upstate NY. Bye bye.

I grew up in Buffalo and left when I was 18. I was so glad to get ouf of there, I hated it so much! Everything above is true, but don’t forget that the place is VERY RACIST. I had a stopover there on a flight and couldn’t wait to get out.
However, for some reason, I still follow the Bills, even though they are one of the most poorly run franchises in the NFL.

Buffalo DOES NOT have a gang problem, those are just family gatherings that talk loudly and play music in inappropriate places and wear colors that represent bloods and crips
Buffalo IS NOT RUN DOWN it has some of the most beautiful old cracked and busted up buildings in the USA the reason they look like that is because they are being preserved to one day tumble down onto the city streets in an awesome display of DECAY

Buffalo is great stop hating. The people are fine. It is you people who have one negative experience with someone and let it fuck up your day and eventually your week and then you find yourself replying to some post made as a “joke” over 5 years ago. It must be all you douches meeting each other around town and coming on here yelling about how much you hate it.
If you are not stuck here move we would all benefit without negative people around like all you fuckers. Get bent!

I have been born and raised in Buffalo, 18 years. The city, not that great. Suburbs, still not that great. Overall, not a great place. However, we’ve dealt with more shit than most cities have, so all you people who bitch and complain about Buffalonian’s should stop your whining. I’m sorry you’re all too weak and snobby to deal with people who have dealt with plenty of shit for a long time. The food here is fantastic; greek food, pizza, chicken wings, all you people who insult our food have been brainwashed to eat pizza hut or domino’s or any other large corporation chain restaurant because you lack individuality and taste. Don’t insult Buffalo. Man up and deal with it. Quit bitching about people who are morally and physically stronger than you because you’re pathetic and lack a personality.
